Blogs . . .

What?! It's only been two years . . .

Whoa! 2009-2010 we must have been working, because I'm not sure where the time went! Sorry we haven't posted in a while. What can we add . . . Oh, did you read the nice blog by Arch at I Could Be Wrong @ Blogger? You should do that, of course.
In other news, you may notice a new member. Wait! Two new members as far as this blog is concerned. Nick Panayi joined us on drums last summer adding energy and enthusiasm and a whole lot of stage presence. His creativity has really shone through in some of the oldies, giving the tired songs a face lift. More recently, Stefano Young joined us on bass with a smooth conviction and thoughtful style that really helps to clean up our act. With his added energy, professionalism and exuberance, we've never sounded or looked better.
We held our own at the 2010 Southern AZ Acoustic Battle of the Bands coming in fourth overall. We really had a great time performing at Old Town Artisans. What a sweet venue, it kept everyone happy and was delightfully intimate!
Also . . . WE'VE FINISHED RECORDING ALL COMPONENTS FOR OUR EP! Now we've got to mix and master and voila! We'll have a CD for purchase for a nominal fee in the new year. Stay tuned for the new tracks and perhaps some new videos. I'm not sure about the men, but I'll be writing new tunes during the holiday break and working on getting t-shirts made along with some other fun things. Any requests?
I'll miss you all during the holidays. Be safe, stay warm, have fun.

Holiday Break

We are taking a holiday break and concentrating on recording. Hopefully by the end of January, we'll have an EP for you to listen to and maybe even some new songs to share live. Thanks for all your support. We appreciate your angst at our not playing out, it feels good to be loved. That's the long and short of it. Guys? Do you have anything to add?
~ Uma
P.S. Oh and I promise to clean up this website/myspace of ours. For goodness sake, I still haven't uploaded the new animated logo with Brian D. yet!

Thank You, Thank You, Thank You!

Thanks so much for donating and supporting C.A.T. for kids with PKD. This disease afflicts many people, adults and children. Your support was much appreciated last night. We know how difficult it is to drag yourself out for one more night at the end of a long weekend and before an even longer weekend! You stayed up late and the energy was still great. We love you guys and we love the kids!
Thanks, Drummer Dave, for giving us the opportunity to help!

A few words from the "New Guy"

I've been meaning to write something since I joined, but I've been busy doing my laundry and working my other job with the FBI. We played our third show Saturday.  I again had issues with hearing the other players. Last show I could not hear Troy. This show I could not hear Brian and Joe. It makes it hard for me as I am still fairly new to these songs and still trying to find the perfect drumline for each tune. Not hearing all the parts really changes the feel. We played a new song for the first time "Wrappers & Carapace" which went well. Joe really shines in this song!
I've been in many bands over the years including semi professional. Overall I think the players in episodes are some of the best musicians I have played with.
Uma – Man that voice! How can so much sound come from such a small person??
Troy – I have never played with a bass player who played a six string bass. I like it! His playing is usually spot on and intricate yet understated which I think is the mark of very good musician.
Brian – One of the best guitarists I have had the pleasure of playing with. His technique is phenomenal.
Joe - Violin has always been one of my favorite instruments and Joe really makes his sing! He also has some good piano/keyboard skills and is a top notch player.
In other band news: We have all decided to change the name of the band to Brian and the Commandos. We're going to come into your place, tear shit up, and leave quietly.

The Science of Music

Drummer Secured!
Brian (another Brian) has joined us and I thought he deserved a better introduction even though we don't have a proper picture of him up yet! He has been diligently working to get all the Episodes songs under his belt and MAN IS HE ORGANIZED. Did I mention that he's an ex-physics student? With all of these wannabe scientists in the band, it's amazing we have any rhythm at all. What's our count now? Two physics PhD candidates, two ex-physics undergrads and a chemist-to-be-someday?
We are methodically getting ourselves into gear. Every rehearsal gets better and better and that can only mean that by the 19th (the date of our next show at Belushe's), we should have a fabulous, cohesive sound!
See you soon.

Born to be an “ANIMAL” – The Search to Avail!

What's in a name?  Parents, if you value your ears and don't want your son to grow up to be a rock star . . . I advise staying away from the following names. We started this band with our good friend Jacob who left to expand his skills in other fields of art. Later we auditioned the very talented Jake who found the music fun, but wanted not to be tethered down.

We played with phenom C-los who left to pursue his music in another land and later auditioned Carl and anxiously awaited an audition with another very talented solo artist, Carlos, whose schedule didn't allow time for a band at this time.

In the same day there was Danny and famous-we-just-didn't-realize-it Denny (our brush with fame, but he moved too quickly before we could secure him).

Quick study Harry B. filled in for us while Harry N. contemplated the long journey twice a week to join our band.

And finally, Rick who has decided to join us (he's fantastic and we can't believe he said yes!), who from time to time practices on Rich's kit that Rich so kindly lets us borrow.

Are these coincidences? Let's not question it. And so to avail . . . we welcome RICK. If you are the train, and we are the wreck, Rick makes the wreck go CRASH!!!!! (In a good way)

The New Phone Book's Here, The New Phone Book's Here!

Navin R. Johnson: The new phone book’s here! The new phone book’s here!
Harry Hartounian: Boy, I wish I could get that excited about nothing.
Navin R. Johnson: Nothing? Are you kidding? Page 73 - Johnson, Navin R.! I’m somebody now! Millions of people look at this book everyday! This is the kind of spontaneous publicity - your name in print - that makes people. I’m in print! Things are going to start happening to me now.
—The Jerk, 1979
I can’t speak for the rest of Episodes, but this is how I feel right now. . . We’ve just put up 6 songs for your listening pleasure. They are rough, but they’ll do for now. We promise to have some even better live recordings up as we have time. We are still in between drummers right now, but are trying to keep our spirits up. Keep looking for hopefuls for us and we’ll keep auditioning till we find just the right mix!
Please give us feed back on the recordings (note to self—maybe I should allow commenting on each song, I’ll go fix that) as we aim to please you!
We have two (maybe 4) shows coming up in April and your support is always loved, needed, appreciated and anticipated. Thanks for hanging in there with us as we get our eggs in one basket and our ducks in a row—it’s springtime, what can I say. . .
Navin, I mean, Uma

Quick Update

Hi everyone. Thanks to all of those that came to our show at Sports on Congress this past Friday night, and thanks to Fort Worth for playing the show with us that evening. Also, as those of you that came to the show I am sure will agree, there is big thanks to be given to Harry who played the drums for us on VERY short notice at this show (that’s right, we’re still looking for a regular drummer, so if you know anybody, or know anybody who knows anybody, etc, get them in touch with us!). The show at Sports had a lot of energy, and introduced a couple of new songs. Expect to hear more new music as well as old favorites at our next couple of shows that we have set up already for the month of April. For those of you that couldn’t make it, we hope to see you soon at one of these dates. They are...
April 17th at Vaudeville with Shark Eyed Bark and Euphrates, stay tuned for concert time!
April 25th at Sports with TBA, again stay tuned for concert time!
In other news, we have our recording equipment up and running now, so we should soon be well into the process of recording an Episodes album so you can listen to us ALL of the time instead of just out at the Tucson bars!
See you all again soon.
On behalf of Episodes,
Joe

EPISODES’ New Years Resolution...

...is to get a demo done and get into more clubs where you can come support us, especially on weekends!
We are currently in the process of recording our four-song demo for the purpose of approaching more club owners and managers with our eclectic brand of folk/funk/jazz/soul/heavy/rock, and presenting them with the prospect of EPISODES brightening their stages for a couple of hours a weekend. It could take the next month for us to get it done, so please be patient as we work harder to get more of EPISODES in front of you, our fans and supporters.
Look for new audio tracks posted here as we complete them.
Yours,
--T.

Thank you, come again!

So we debuted Wednesday night (Sept 26th 2007). Thank you to all of you who came and supported us! Episodes had a blast.
I was surprised at the turnout for a Wednesday night. All our grad student friends were able to tear themselves away from grading papers and work friends found babysitters and took a break from moving. Even my mom made the trip down to see us! A little music, some Pulp Fiction on the TVs (you can never have too many "Uma's"), a little drink and pool, I think everyone had a good time. We seem to have done well enough to warrant a monthly slot at Sharks, so we'll keep you posted as to dates and times. If we can manage a weekend, the Lankans (you know who you are) won't have an excuse to not come way down south to Tucson. You under-agers . . . for goodness sake, turn 21 already. And for those of you who normally wouldn't have missed it, but who's fate would not allow it (you guys all know who you are too), I hope all is well and we'll see you next time, cuz we especially missed you!!
Thanks to our camera crew: Dudes (Travis & Anthony) and dudette (Terri), you rawk! And to the sound crew at Sharks (George) and those who gave us a chance to play out without fully knowing what they were getting into. I hope we pleasantly surprised you all. Let's do this again sometime.
In the weeks to come we will be adding Joe, our violinist, who has already enhanced our sound. I'm sure you will all be very pleased. And before the end of November we hope to have some proper demos up on our site for those of you who can't be here to experience our episodes.
Stay tuned . . . I know I try to . . .
